Imbibe the greatest cocktails from the world?s greatest city, from Prohibition classics to modern libations, all invented in New York City. Do you know your Manhattan from a Tom Collins? What about a Clover Club, a Penicillin or a Psycho Killer? In NYC Cocktails, New York drinks? journalist Kathryn Maier takes us through the history of New York cocktails, with more than 60 recipes to make at home. Some of the world?s most famous cocktails were invented in New York, a trend that continues to this day with of-the-moment speakeasies and bars such as Dead Rabbit and Death and Co. still breaking the mould with their boozy creations. NY Cocktails takes us back to the beginning of New York?s cocktail scene, to the grand hotels of the 19th century and the creation of the Manhattan, Martini, Clover Club and Gin&It ? learn how these sippers came to be and who made them. Then move on to the Prohibition era where underground classics, such as the Bloody Mary, Mimosa and Mary Pickford, seeped out of illegal speakeasies and into the hearts and cocktail glasses of New York?s movers and shakers of the 1920s. Fast-forward to the 80s and indulge in a Cosmopolitan, Naked and Famous, Ritz Cocktail or an Old Cuban to the sound of Yacht Rock, before staggering your way back into the 21st century to sample the contemporary creations that are sure to become classics in their own right. With a handy guide to glassware and garnishes, plus stunning illustrations of the cocktails, New York bars and some of the people who inspired or invented particular drinks, NYC Cocktails will unleash your inner bartender and open up a world of cocktails that are guaranteed to become new favourites.
